Trends I Love: Structured Bags & Strong Top Handles

One of my favorite elements of fashion is contrast. I foam at the mouth when I catch a good high end/low end pairing, like a Céline bag with some $8 thrifted jeans; or the posh-meets-sporty spice vibes of high heels with Adidas track pants. “Opposites attract” may be a myth of successful human relationships, but in fashion, it’s harmonious.

With all the athleisure and billowy, loose silhouettes of the sartorial moment, the trendiest contrast piece to pair them with is a structured handbag–bonus points if its power lies in a strong top handle. There’s something masterful to me about pairing gauzy, white pants and a loose button-down blouse tied at the middle with a rigid purse. It’s beachy and undone with a hint of architectural flair. Check out my bag picks and some look inspiration to pair them with:

Bamboo is *everywhere* this season. ASOS, $56

Structure does not have to be angular. Circle bags have been flying off the shelves this year. Forever 21, $28

No nonsense with this metal detailed top handle and sleek croc. Nasty Gal via South Moon Under, $78

Zara never misses a beat with trends. They offer woven, raffia, bamboo, top handles galore right now. Hexagonal Crossbody, $40; Rigid Handle Tote Bag, $50

Alas, the bag that goes with everything… with a cool, circular top handle. Mango, $80
