Daily Drip

Drinking: Venti iced latte with soy milk, half decaf.

Listening: “Heartbreaker” by Mariah Carey ft. Jay Z. Can we just take a second to commend Miss Carey’s eloquent edge on her pop diva peers?

It’s a shame to be so euphoric and weak
When you smile at me and you tell me the things
That you know persuade me to relinquish my love to you
But I cannot resist at all

Wearing: Old Navy active black running shorts (I swear by these more than any nice athletic brand. I’d link them, but the ones I wear are out of stock online), United By Blue black Himley Waffle Sweater, United By Blue Pass Crossbody, Darn Tough Vermont hiking socks, grey New Balance 990v4. United By Blue is an environmental apparel brand that removes one pound of trash from our waterways for every item purchased. I was grateful to be a part of their fall campaign this year, and I plan to participate in their cleanup in November. Join me!

Thinking: When I logged onto Facebook today, I noticed a kid from my high school class had a birthday yesterday. A kid who was quiet and by himself whenever I passed him in the halls. In class, he’d draw with his tongue out the entire time, and went flush, deadpan, and mute whenever called on by a teacher. An unlikely Virgo. I don’t know anything about his life these days. Facebook says he has no activity since February 2018, that he’s “in a relationship,” and works at the grocery store in my hometown. There are three posts on his wall: my “happy birthday” to him last year, as well as one from a woman named Jean, and my “happy belated” to him this year. For all I know, he’s doing better than I am. Happy, with two bouncing kids and a house to call his own. But the lump of sadness in my throat slowly rises. I hate the idea that he could be lonely. I hate the idea that anyone could be lonely. And yet, the reality is so many are. Humans have a biological need for connection. Some people aren’t getting that, and some of them are committing suicide because of it. I think if I had a super power, it would be to match people up with lifelong friends or romantic partners so no one would ever be lonely.

Currently Inspired By: Olsen twin fashion. Always, but especially absorbed in street style blogs dedicated to their looks today. They do fall/winter better than anyone.
